N ot long ago， President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held the second informal summit in Chennai of India. They walked and talked among ancient temples， and discussed the world under the deep sky. It was in the friendly， relaxed， pragmatic and efficient conversation that the two leaders made strategic guidance for the development of bilateral relations between China and India， setting the tone for the next stage and pointing out the direction.

不久前，習近平主席与莫迪总理在印度金奈举行了中印领导人第二次非正式会晤，双方在古寺庙群间，边走边谈，在深邃星空下，纵论天下。正是在这种友好轻松、务实高效的交谈中，两国领导人为中印双边关系的发展作出了战略引领，为下一阶段的发展确定了基调、指明了方向。

Our world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century. The western developed economies are facing multiple challenges， while the developing countries have risen collectively. China and India are maintaining strong growth momentum and rising influence. In this context， the two countries should not only have a correct view of each others development， but also work together to achieve common development，"Mutual Achievement， Mutual Illumination".

当今世界正经历百年未有之大变局，西方发达经济体面临多重挑战，发展中国家群体性崛起，中印两国保持着强劲的增长动力，影响力不断上升。在这种大背景下，两国既要正确看待对方发展，更要携手实现共同发展，“相互成就、相互‘照亮”。

China and India are the only two countries in the world with a population of more than one billion. The markets are huge， the industrial structures are complementary， and the prospects for cooperation are broad. The business communities of China and India are eager to strengthen economic and trade cooperation. More than 1，000 Chinese companies have established operations in India， creating 200，000 jobs for the local community. More than two-thirds of Indian companies investing in China have made steady profits.

中印是世界上仅有的两个人口超过10亿的大国，市场规模巨大，产业结构互补，合作前景广阔。中印工商界热切期盼加强经贸合作。目前已有1000多家中国公司在印度开展业务，为当地创造了20万个就业机会。超过2/3的印度赴华投资企业稳定盈利。

This year is the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and India. Bilateral relations will face new opportunities for development. Guided by the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi， we should continue to expand the cake of cooperation， blaze a new path of common development and win-win cooperation among emerging countries， to realize the Dragons-Elephants Dance.

今年是中印两国建交70周年，双边关系将面临新的发展契机。中印两国各界应以习近平主席和莫迪总理达成的重要共识为引领，不断做大合作蛋糕，走出一条新兴大国共同发展、合作共赢之路，实现龙象共舞。

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Peoples Republic of China to the Republic of India

2020 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and the Peoples Republic of China. As two ancient civilizations and important neighbours to each other， India and China have enjoyed historical and civilizational bonds that go back more than two millennia. As two modern nation states， they have also expanded their bilateral， political， economic， cultural and people-to-people contacts in the last few decades. It is indeed reflective of the importance attached by both countries to their bilateral relations that Prime Minister Modi and President Xi， when they met in Chennai in October 2019 for the Second Informal Summit， decided to celebrate this important milestone in our diplomatic relations by observing 2020 as the India-China Year of Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges， as well as by holding 70 commemorative activities， which would inspire us to further expand our bilateral engagements and deepen the relationship between our two countries at all levels.

2020年是印中兩国建交70周年。作为世界两大文明古国，印中互为邻邦，双方的历史交往可以追溯至两千多年前。而作为两个现代化国家，双方的政治、经济、文化和人文交往在过去几十年里也经历了长足发展。2019年10月，莫迪总理和习近平主席在金奈举行第二次非正式会晤，决定要举办70项庆祝活动，指定2020年为“印中人文交流年”。这充分表明了两国对双边关系给予的重视，将激励我们进一步加强双边沟通合作，全面深化两国交往。

In the realm of trade and economic contacts， India and China are important partners for each other. While bilateral trade reached $95 billion in 2018， more balanced trade， reductions in the bilateral trade deficit and a level playing field for Indian companies supplying goods and services are key priorities for India. It is hoped that increased market access for Indian pharmaceuticals and agricultural products in China will go some way in addressing the bilateral trade deficit. Indian IT/ITeS too is reputed globally and could benefit Chinese companies by providing high-quality and competitive services. At the same time， India is a major destination for Foreign Direct Investment （FDI） and， following the adoption of many positive measures by the Government， the business environment has continuously improved. This has increased the potential avenues for investment into India by Chinese enterprises. In this context， the High-Level Economic and Trade Dialogue mechanism and the India-China Manufacturing Partnership emerging from the Chennai Informal Summit offer new vistas for cooperation.

印中两国在经贸领域也已成为重要合作伙伴。2018年，双边贸易额达到950亿美元。贸易更加均衡，贸易逆差进一步缩小，为印度企业创造更加公平的贸易环境已经成为印度的优先事务。希望进一步扩大印度医药和农产品在华市场准入将有助于解决双边贸易逆差问题。同时，印度拥有世界知名的信息技术，能够为中国企业提供高质量和高性价比的服务。此外，印度还是世界重要的投资胜地，随着印度政府推行一系列鼓励投资的政策，印度的商业环境得到持续改善，为中国企业投资印度创造了良好机遇。印中两国金奈非正式会晤建立了高层经贸对话机制以及印中制造业合作伙伴关系，为经贸合作提供了新的可能性。

In parallel， people-to-people exchanges， including in areas such as tourism， entertainment and movies， culture and sports not only contribute to greater understanding between the people of India and China， but can also yield opportunities for imaginative entrepreneurs in both countries. At Wuhan in 2018， our leaders had directed the setting up of a High Level Mechanism on Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges led by the Foreign Ministers of both countries. The mechanism has already met twice and has identified ten areas of cooperation， many of which will be focus areas in 2020.

此外，雙方在旅游、电影、文化和体育方面的互动不仅有益于进一步增进双方互信，也能为两国具有想象力的创业者提供新的发展机遇。2018年，两国领导人在武汉要求建立高级别人文交流机制，该机制由两国外交部长为牵头人。在该机制下，双方迄今为止已会晤两次，确定了十大合作领域，其中多项合作将在2020年全面展开。

Overall， the 70th Anniversary of India-China Diplomatic Relations offers both our countries new prospects and new possibilities. We hope to transform these into reality， taking further steps towards the Asian Century， in which both India and China have a prominent part to play.

总之，印中两国建交70周年将为两国关系发展开启崭新篇章。印中两国将在亚洲世纪扮演重要角色。我们殷切希望能够将两国的合作愿景转化为现实成果，向亚洲世纪迈进一大步。

T he economic and trade history of China and India can be traced back to a thousand years ago. Since entering the new era， as the scale and demand of the Indian market have been constantly expanding， more and more Chinese enterprises have come to India to invest， do business and conduct economic and trade cooperation， and their investment scale and quality have been constantly expanding and improving. More than 1，000 Chinese companies have invested $8 billion and created 200，000 jobs in India. As the two most populous countries in the world， China and India have broad space for further development of economic and trade relations featuring win-win cooperation. Chinese companies can make great achievements in India.

中印两国经贸历史可追溯至千年。进入新时代以来，随着印度市场规模与需求不断扩大，来印度投资、兴业、开展经贸合作的的中资企业越来越多，投资规模和质量不断扩大和提高。目前约有1000多家中资企业在印投资建厂，累计投资额达80亿美元，为当地创造了20万个工作岗位。中印两国作为世界上人口最多的两个国家，进一步发展合作共赢的经贸关系，具有广阔的发展空间，中资企业在印度大有作为。

2020 is the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and China. 2020 is the 125th year since the Confederation of Indian Industry （CII） was founded. 2020 is the 25th year since CII connected with China. 2020 is the 17th year since CII Shanghai office was established.

2020 年注定是不平凡的一年。2020 年是中印两国建交 70 周年，同时也是印度工业联合会（CII）成立 125 周年。2020 年是印度工业联合会同中国建立合作的第 25 个年头，也是印度工业联合会上海代表处成立的第17 个年头。

The Confederation of Indian Industry （CII） is pleased to be associated with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade （CCPIT） in this Special Issue for celebrating the 70th Anniversary of India-China Diplomatic Relations.

Both India and China are countries with long histories. As neighboring countries， the friendly exchanges between India and China date back to ancient times. We are also two biggest developing countries and emerging economies in the world. In recent years， both countries have maintained communication， deepened our understanding and developed our friendship. India-China economic and trade cooperation has developed steadily and moved to new stages. India-China relations are not only important for our two countries but take on regional and global significance.

中印两国历史悠久，互为近邻，友好交往源远流长。两国同为世界上重要的发展中国家和新兴经济体。近年来，两国保持密切沟通，不断增进互信、巩固友谊，双方经贸合作稳步发展，不断迈向新阶段。中印关系不仅对两国具有重要意义，而且对地区和世界具有重大意义。近年来，中印两国政府高层互访不断增加，有力推动了双边经贸合作发展。自战略伙伴关系签署以来，两国双边贸易和投资规模迅速增长。丰硕的合作成果进一步凸显了两国在世界经济中扮演的重要角色。

In the recent years， we have been witnessing more and more highlevel dialogues between the two Governments， which have contributed greatly to economic cooperation on both sides. Since the signing of strategic partnership， the volume of bilateral trade and investment between India and China has been increasing rapidly. The fruitful cooperation demonstrates the crucial role played by the two big developing countries in the world economy.

作为印度最重要的协会组织，印度工业联合会一直致力于推进中印两国之间的经贸合作与交流。我们坚信，中印经济伙伴关系对于亚洲地区乃至世界的繁榮与发展至关重要。
