    “Oops”还能怎么说?

Trendy Equivalents of the Word “Oops”

The English language is continually evolving, with additional words added to dictionaries and slang[俚语] created on a regular basis[定期]. Focusing the scope[视野,范围] of the binoculars[双筒望远镜] on the word “Oops,”several trendy[流行的] equivalents[对应词] come into sharp focus.

    1. My Bad

Behold[看见] a phrase that is not likely to make a grammar teacher very happy. How can an action such as acting badly (which after all may be subjective[主观的]) be a possessive[所有格的] term as well? How can someone own their “badness”? Shouldnt the phrase instead be “I am bad” or “My actions are bad”? The two words “my” and “bad” stuck together are an alternate[交替的] way to say “I did wrong” or “Oops.” The phrase is a trendy version of the classic “Oops.”

    2. LOL

Pair the term with a blush[脸红] of the cheeks. “LOL,” an acronym[首字母缩略词] for “Laugh Out Loud,” is a way to shrug off[对……不予理睬] what one has done wrong. Why say one word of “Oops”when one can compress[压缩] the three words of “Laugh Out Loud” down to one acronym?

The shorter the better with the fury[暴怒] of texting fingers nowadays. “LOL” also provides an inside joke among a younger generation who have lists of memorized abbreviations[缩写词] to choose from for email and text messages. “Oops” on the other hand is a classic term understood by many generations and therefore not such a trendy word.

    3. DOh!

I believe we have Homer Simpson to thank for this trendy equivalent of the word “Oops.” Famed animated character from the television show The Simpsons, Homer remarked “DOh!” in many episodes[集]. He said the phrase (or was it a word?) when he realized that he had made a mistake in some way. “DOh!” and “Oops” both require recognition of a mistake.

While humans are animated[活生生的] in ways that differ from the cartoon world,“DOh!” has carried over[转入] to the lines of human communication.
