　　Kids love Halloween because it’s a funny holiday. They can put on any kind of their scary(1)clothes and masks(2). Kids also love to play “Trick or Treat”(3)with Jack O’ Lanterns(4)in their hands on Halloween.
　　Today is Halloween. Now Tom is busy making a pumpkin candleholder(5). He cuts the top off a small pumpkin first. Then he removes(6)the seeds(7)in the pumpkin with a small spoon. At last he sticks (8)a candle into the hole. Aha! He’ll enjoy dinner with his parents by the candlelight.
　　Just at this moment, Jim is coming. He asks Tom to call from house to house and play “Trick or Treat”.
　　They go out together. They shout， “Trick or treat? Smell my feet! Give me something good to eat.” Most of people give them apples, biscuits, candies and money. But when they get to a house, there’s no person but a bird.
　　The bird tells them, “I have nothing nice to give you. What a pity! I’m under a bad witch’s spell (9). In the morning, I change back into a princess. When the sun sets(10), I change into a bird. Help me, my friends!”
　　“Oh, what a sad princess! But how can we help you?”
　　“OK. There’s a turnip(11)in my field. Just in front of my house. It’s the biggest turnip in the world. I can’t pull it out. If you can, please make a biggest turnip light. Then turn on the light in the turnip. The spell will be broken(12). ”
　　“All right. We will try our best. You, please wait!” Tom and Jim go to the field at once and have a look at the turnip. There the two boys really see a very large turnip. They grasp(13)the leaves of the turnip and pull. But the large turnip is still in the soil (14).
　　A young man is passing by. Tom cries, “Please help us to pull out this turnip!” The man puts his arms around Tom’s waist(15)and they start pulling! But they can’t pull out the large turnip.
　　Then Helen，Tom and Jim’s good friend， is walking by with her little dog Pat. Tom asks Helen for help.
　　Helen puts her arms around the young man’s waist. The dog follows Helen and takes hold of Helen’s dress in his mouth. They count to three and pull.
　　To their surprise, this time the turnip flies out of the ground so fast that all of them are falling on top of each other.
　　How wonderful! Now it’s time to make the biggest turnip light. They cut off the very top of the turnip and hollow out (16)the inside with knives and spoons. It takes them much time to make a big hole in the turnip. Then they put ninety-nine flashlights(17)into the hole. They turn on the flashlights! Wow! The biggest special Jack O’ Lantern is done!
　　Immediately they see the bird is turning back into a smart princess.“ Now let’s have a costume party (18)， OK?” Helen suggests.
　　All of them have lots of fun on Halloween.
