《中长期铁路网规划》实施7年来，我国铁路现代化建设取得重大成就，尤其是高速铁路发展迅猛，全国路网规模和质量大幅提升，为确保“十二五”基本建成发达完善铁路网奠定了坚实基础。截至2010年，全国铁路营业里程9.1万公里，其中高速铁路8358公里，复线率、电气化率分别提高到41%和46%。
《规划》实施以来，一大批高速铁路、城际铁路、煤炭运输通道、区际干线和西部铁路等重点项目相继开工。高速铁路及城际铁路建设如火如荼，煤运通道建设成绩显著，区际干线和西部铁路建设亮点频现，重要客货运枢纽建设加快推进。铁路网规模进一步扩大，路网结构更加合理，运输能力大幅度提高，运输质量迅速提升。
《规划》的实施 7年来，让老百姓享受到更加快捷、方便、舒适的高品质运输服务，为我国经济社会发展提供了坚强的铁路运输保障。新规划体现了快速扩充运输能力、迅速提高装备水平的要求。
The implementation of "Long-term railway network plan"(short for "plan" below) in 7 years, China made significant achievements in railway modernization, particularly the rapid development of high speed railway, the size and quality of national road network improved significantly to ensure the basic completion of the perfect railway network laying a solid foundation in "Twelfth Five Years". Until the year of 2010, the national railway mileage reach 91,000 km, high speed railway reach 8,358 km, double-track and electrification rate increase to 41% and 46%. Since the implementation of "Plan", a large number of high speed railways, intercity high speed railways, coal transportation routes, district railway line and western railway lines and other key projects have been started.
High speed railway and intercity high speed railway constructed like a raging fire, coal transportation routes achieved remarkable, district railway line and western railway line highlight frequently, construction of important hub of passenger and cargo speed up.
The scale railway network expands further; road network structure is more reasonable, transport capacity increase substantially, transport quality increase rapidly.
Between the 7 years since the "Plan" implemented, let people enjoy a faster and more convenient, comfortable and high-quality transportation services, provide the strong railway transportation security for economic and social development of China.
Construction of high speed railway reflects that China has reached a very high level in the relevant technology, and also reflects the advantages of the Chinese system.
