1932.1.8出生于密苏里州哥伦比亚市（Columbia, Missouri）。
1950进入密苏里大学，学习工业管理与人事管理。
1954参军，在美国空军任上尉（served as a lieutenant personnel officer at the Squadron）。
1958完成学业，获得密苏里大学（University of Missouri）科学学士学位。
1960获得密苏里大学劳工关系与管理专业硕士学位（Master degree in Management and Labor Relations）；在密苏里州堪萨斯市的霍尔马克贺卡公司（Hallmark Cards Corporation）任生产主管。
1962获得经济教育基金会奖学金（the Foundation for Economic Education Fellowship）。
1963在伊利诺伊大学（University of Illinois）学习工商管理，获博士学位；到佛罗里达州立大学（Florida State University）任助教。
1972出版《管理思想的演变》；获得美国杰出教育家奖（the Outstanding Educators of America Award）。
1973在俄克拉荷马大学（University of Oklahoma）任管理学教授，兼任该校哈里巴斯商业史文献收藏馆馆长（Curator of the Harry W. Bass Business History Collection）。
1973-2007在俄克拉荷马大学任职期间曾担任管理系主任和商学院院长（served as the Director of the Division of Management and the Interim Dean of the Price College of Business）。
