Sweet-faced， curly-haired Shirley Temple was born in Santa Monica， California in April， 1928. She was eolled （入学） in dance school at the age of three.

Her films were all about bringing grown-ups back together and melting （融化） frozen hearts. She cheered up （使……振作） the nation during the Great Depression （经济大萧条） so that President Franklin D. Roosevelt called her “Little Miss Miracle” and said， “as long as our country has Shirley Temple， we will be all right”.

After retiring from films in 1950 at the age of 21， Temple returned to the public eye in politics. She unsuccessfully ran for Congress （议会） as a Republican （共和党） in 1967. But， she was appointed as America’s ambassador （大使） to Ghana （加纳） in 1974.
